Packaging Advice
We would like to give you some guidance as to the Do's and Don'ts of packaging your consignment. The correct use of packaging is essential to ensure the safe, undamaged arrival of your shipment.
As your parcel will be handled many times during its journey both manually and by automated machinery it is essential that it is packaged both correctly and securely to reflect this. Packed correctly to protect the contents securely and to protect the handling staff.
The use of "Fragile" or "Handle with Care" stickers is no substitute for a correctly packaged item; they are useful as a guide to their contents only.
Do
Use Expanded Foam Chippings, Bubble-Wrap, Polystyrene Foam, Shredded Paper or Cardboard to protect the contents.
Wrap each individual item separately.
Use a strong outer container like a Corrugated Cardboard Box.
Ensure that they are not over packed to push out of the sides and not too under packed to be moving around inside the box.
Check the Prohibited Items section of this site.
Ensure the boxes are able to support a reasonable weight as they may be stacked during transit.
Seal all joints with a good quality packaging tape and not general domestic tape.
If using second hand packaging material please ensure all existing labels are removed to avoid been sent to the wrong address.
Make sure that the delivery address and phone number are clearly marked in upper case lettering to avoid any delays.
Do Not
Use Sheets or any type of Fabric or Cloth as these are not suitable as packaging materials for your goods.
Ignore the advice given on this site. (It is there to help you)
Use Rope or String to seal boxes.
Send Prohibited or Dangerous items
Rely on the packaging you have received other goods in as this may not be suitable for further transit.
Remember
All the above is our advice only and is there as guidance only, if required we recommend that you contact a packaging specialist before sending important or valuable items in the post.
As with all delivery systems the responsibility for the safe delivery of any item lies firstly with the customer. The processing of insurance claims is not a quick or straight forward process and the replacement of any insured goods can take time. Please take the time to look at the advice given as this will save time and possible heart ache in the future.
